Upcoming movie trailers are sometimes rather deceptive. Some upcoming movie trailers do not do enough to promote the film. I remember watching the trailer for the movie Cloverfield. When I saw the trailer, I expected a schmaltzy Godzilla remake. When I watched the actual movie, I was pleasantly surprised because it surpassed my expectations.
There are times when the opposite happens and upcoming movie trailers lead me to believe a movie is going to be great when in reality it disappoints. This happened with the trailer for the movie There Will Be Blood. I though it would be a wonderful movie. It turned out to be dull and slow. The only thing that made the movie worth watching was Daniel Day Lewis’s superb acting.
Upcoming movie trailers are meant to wet your appetite, but they are too short to give any real indication of how good the movie is. For example, one of the horror movie trailers that seems promising is for The Happening, which opens in cinemas tomorrow. The only way to find out if The Happening is as good as it looks is to see it at the cinema or wait until it is released on DVD and rent it.
